In volume 29 of
the International Journal of Andrology published in October 2006, W.F.Wang, S. Minhas, and D.J. Ralph examined several studies using phosphodiesterase 5 inhibitors and their effectiveness in treating premature ejaculation ( PE ). These studies, noted the authors, had several concerns which could cast doubt on the reliability in using PDE5-IS drugs to treat premature ejaculation ( PE ).
The studies using PDE5-IS drugs had relatively small numbers of subjects, thus limiting scope. In addition, the studies did not use double-blind protocols or placebo-controlled subjects. Previous studies suggested using
PDE5-IS with older men, leaving out younger men who also complain of premature ejaculation ( PE ). Other studies suggest that PDE5-IS drugs should be used in conjunction with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) or when SSRIs fail to provide relief for premature ejaculation ( PE ). These and other shortcomings prompt the authors to question whether PDE5-IS treat premature ejaculation ( PE ), and if so, then further studies are warranted to determine the overall effectiveness.
