In volume 99 of BJU International published in April 2007, researchers studied circumcision and its effect on penile sensitivity. Some theories indicate that penile sensitivity is correlated with an increased rate of rapid or premature ejaculation ( PE ). By reducing penile sensitivity, some men are able to increase intravaginal ejaculatory latency time ( IELT ) .
The study compared two groups of men: 68 uncircumcised men and 91 circumcised men. Using the Semmes-Weinstein monofilament touch-test sensory evaluators to determine sensitivity. Overall, the glans penis of men who were circumcised were less receptive or sensitive to fine touch than that of men who were uncircumcised. Researchers admit that while finding this information is helpful, other types of stimuli (hot, cold, and vibratory) are needed before making definitive statements about circumcision.
