In volume 14 of Primary Psychiatry published in 2007, Dr. Marcel Waldinger notes that prevalence of premature ejaculation ( PE ) may not be as high as previously reported. Some men may be reporting complaints of premature ejaculation ( PE ) when they do not fit current diagnostic criteria for the condition.
By examining the difference between a complaint and a disorder, Waldinger explains that the true prevalence of lifelong and acquired premature ejaculation ( PE ) may be much lower than the 20-40% reported in previous medical studies. Since there is some discussion about changing the classifications of premature ejaculation ( PE ), researchers will want to examine the difference between each of the classifications in order to determine true prevalence rates and how they affect reporting of the condition.
