The Inaugural Conference on Disease-Mongering held April 2006 in
Newcastle,
Australia discussed in-depth the validity of premature ejaculation ( PE ) as a viable medical or psychological condition. According to some researchers, premature ejaculation ( PE ) is “the next sexual dysfunction” marketed by pharmaceutical companies who are quick to profit from the concerns of consumers. The researchers speaking at the conference feel that premature ejaculation( PE )
is primarily psychological in origin, thus rendering pharmaceutical intervention unnecessary.
Instead, researcher and therapist Dr. Leonore Tiefer recommends utilizing traditional sex therapy as one way to become comfortable with preconceived notions about the appropriate length of a sexual encounter, especially within the confines of an established relationship. Another researcher, Dr. Ross Morrow, deems premature ejaculation, “suspicious” because it is poorly defined.
