Drugs (publication date still pending), MD Waldinger discuses further the proposal to further define premature ejaculation ( PE ) with the new edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th Edition). If the changes are accepted, new classifications of premature ejaculation ( PE ) will be possible, giving a wider ranger of diagnostic material available to clinicians and researchers.
In addition, Waldinger does not support treating premature ejaculation ( PE ) with “on-demand” drugs, like dapoxetine ( Priligy ™ ), since the increases in intravaginal ejaculation latency time are not as significant as those of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) taken on a daily basis. Some patients have experienced success with non-pharmacologic interventions such topical anesthetic ointments. Finally, medications used to treat erectile dysfunction should not be prescribed for men with premature ejaculation unless both conditions are present.
