In volume 67 of
Urology published in February 2006, A Tuncel et. al. reported that EMLA cream appears to be sufficient when used alone for treating premature ejaculation ( PE ). The skin-numbing medication can be applied directly to the glans penis and is generally thought to reduce penile sensitivity that may cause premature ejaculation ( PE ). Tuncel’s study examined whether or not adding sildenafil to EMLA lengthened the intravaginal ejaculatory latency time ( IELT ).
The results revealed that using EMLA by itself appeared to provide more relief to men than using sildenafil alone or together with EMLA. For men who used sildenafil (either alone or with EMLA), the most common side effect was headache and flushing. When using EMLA by itself, no side effects were noted. In conclusion, researchers felt that EMLA could be prescribed alone for men who complain of premature ejaculation instead of adding pharmacological interventions to the treatment plan.
