In the 60th volume of the International Journal of Clinical Practice published in June 2006, A. Riley and R.T. Segraves explored some of the reasons why couples may not be able to find methods to overcome premature ejaculation ( PE ) on their own. In today’s busy society, there are many obligations for the couple, and sex can, at times, fall low on the list of priorities. Some physicians are tempted to prescribe medication to help these couples instead of working with them to find therapeutic interventions that will work without side effects.
Riley and Segraves argue that these couples are the ones that benefit most from behavioral intervention instead of pharmaceutical treatment. One method that they suggest is discussing time management with them, helping them re-arrange busy schedules in order to take extra time for sexual pleasuring that can increase intravaginal ejaculatory latency time ( IELT ).
