In the 3rd volume of the Journal of Sexual Medicine published in January 2006, R Shamloul and A el-Nashaar studied 153 men with premature ejaculation ( PE ) to determine if chronic prostatitis could be an underlying physical cause of the condition. Men in the study were 29-51 years old and 100 healthy men were included as a control group. Researchers collected samples from all men in accordance with the Meares and Stamey protocol.
In analyzing the results, there were no significant differences between the groups in terms of frequency of sexual intercourse, age, or education level. The men with premature ejaculation ( PE ) had prostatic inflammation 64% of the time and chronic bacterial prostatitis in 52% of these men. Researchers conclude that chronic bacterial prostatitis and prostatic inflammation could play a significant role in biological causes of premature ejaculation ( PE ).
