Premature ejaculation ( PE ) affects approximately 30% of men. Despite its prevalence, no single medication has yet been approved for treating the condition. Dapoxetine
( Priligy TM )
, however, has been studied as a way to bring this disparity to an end. During a 12 week clinical trial, men in stable heterosexual relationship who had intravaginal ejaculatory latency times of ≤2 minutes were randomly assigned to three groups: 30mg dapoxetine
( Priligy TM )
, 60mg dapoxetine, or placebo.
At the end of the trials, only 14% of men taking the placebo had IELT of ≥3 minutes, whereas 29% and 34% of men taking dapoxetine
( Priligy TM )
(30mg and 60mg, respectively) experienced the same increase. More strikingly, was that men taking dapoxetine
( Priligy TM )
reported higher sexual satisfaction and more control over ejaculation. Men in the placebo group did not report the same satisfaction increases. Even though dapoxetine
( Priligy TM )
did not receive approval from the Food and Drug Administration, Johnson & Johnson is still investigating its options.
