Even though the market for “lifestyle drugs” is currently marketed for impotence, researchers and physicians know that there is still room for improvement. Since premature ejaculation ( PE ) is the most common male sexual dysfunction, it only makes sense to market specific drugs that may offer relief. Eli Lilly first developed dapoxetine ( Priligy ™ ) more than ten years ago, but its intended purpose as an antidepressant was not successful.
Johnson & Johnson acquired rights to test dapoxetine ( Priligy ™ ) and felt it could be an effective treatment for premature ejaculation ( PE ). It left the body too quickly for depression treatment, but as an on-demand dose for premature ejaculation ( PE ), it appeared to work wonders. Even though the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) declined to approve it in 2005, Johnson & Johnson continue to explore ways for approval and market it overseas.
