In the epublication of a November 2006 article from the
International Journal of Impotence Research, QK Fatt, et al discussed the development of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) to be used with men suspected of premature ejaculation ( PE ). Since anxiety is often cited as component of premature ejaculation ( PE ), researchers felt that also examining resulting depression could help in the management of the condition. Study volunteers were from
Malaysia, thus resulting validity and reliability of the scale have been determined for this population.
Researchers found that the scale has high internal consistency and high validity overall. A two-week follow-up continued to demonstrate high consistency and validity for both men who had premature ejaculation and healthy male volunteers. Clinicians who are trying to assess change in anxiety or depression in men with premature ejaculation ( PE ) may be able to use HADS to determine if treatment is effective.
