More Trials Planned for Premature Ejaculation ( PE ) Spray

Updated May 26, 2007 at 22:37 EST.

The newest drug treatment for premature ejaculation ( PE ), TEMPE, is undergoing a third clinical trial to determine the drug’s effectiveness and safety. Initial trials demonstrate that men may be able to experience up to 5 times the “staying power” after using TEMPE than prior to using the spray. Professor Wallace Dinsmore, inventor of the drug, states that so far the trials have shown no side effects of using the spray.

TEMPE is a metered spray comprised of both lidocaine and prilocaine. It is sprayed directly onto the penis approximately 15 minutes prior to intercourse. The first two trials were conducted in Northern Ireland and Europe, both showing the drug’s potential as a breakthrough treatment. The third trial will use men from throughout Europe.
