New Drug Being Considered for Premature Ejaculation ( PE )

Updated Mar 3, 2007 at 6:59 EST.

A new drug under the experimental name LI 301 is being investigated as a possible treatment for premature ejaculation ( PE ). The new medicine is still in the development stages, yet one study of 30 couples yielded promising results. The mint-flavored medicine “delayed ejaculation to some degree in all men tested,” the developers noted.

The new medicine is being proposed by a pharmaceutical company called Enhance Biotech. Some physicans, however, are content to wait for FDA approval of the medicine before deciding whether or not it will be useful. These physicians point to the successes of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) like Paxil ® and Zoloft ® in treating premature ejaculation ( PE ). SSRIs have more research to back their effectiveness while LI 301 still needs more study before it is approved and ready for distribution.
