In the January 17, 2007 volume of European Urology, Symonds, et. al. discuss the development and validation of a short-item survey tool to help measure premature ejaculation ( PE ). Most studies of premature, or rapid ejaculation, use intravaginal ejaculatory latency time (IELT) as measured by a stopwatch, the authors wanted to find an alternate method to pinpoint men who may have the condition.
The survey used men who had measured IELT of ≤2 minutes, men who self-reported premature ejaculation ( PE ), and men who reported no sign of premature ejaculation ( PE ). The resulting survey was a 5-item questionnaire that measures five areas of the condition that are difficult to measure with a stopwatch: control, frequency, minimal stimulation, distress, and interpersonal difficulty. The study’s authors note that it is easy to administer, easy to score, and can be used with relative ease in a clinical setting.
