In the March 2007 epublication of the
Journal of Sexual Medicine, EA Salem, et. al examined the results from a study using the pain medication/anti-inflammatory tramadol HCL as a possible treatment for premature ejaculation ( PE ). The study used a low dose of 25mg on-demand at least 1-2 hours prior to sexual intercourse. Participants in the study had an intravaginal ejaculation latency time (IELT) of ≤2 minutes in order to be considered. Men in the control group used a placebo.
After the 8 week study was completed, researchers determined that men who used the tramadol HCL increased IELT from 1.17 ± .39 minutes to 7.37 ± 2.53 minutes. Men in the placebo group had an IELT of 2.01 ± .71 minutes at the end of the study. Patients in the tramadol HCL group overall expressed satisfaction with the results. Even though medication is not designed to treat premature ejaculation ( PE ), it could be of some benefit to men who are seeking an on-demand treatment for their condition.
