Pharmaceutical treatment options for PE patients

Updated Jan 9, 2008 at 7:50 EST.

Once patients make the decision to treat their premature ejaculation ( PE ).   There are a bunch of different treatment options for them and their doctor’s to choose from.   Patients and their doctors can choose to take pharmaceutical medications.   The most common off label prescribed medications are SSRI’s.   These are selective, serotonin, reuptake inhibitors which are usually prescribed for depression, but are also effective in treating PE.
Common SSRI’s which have proven effective in clinical trials are Dapoxetine ( Prilogy™ ) and flouxetine.    Patients and their doctor’s can choose to take on demand dosage, which means they must take the medication a specified amount of time before ejaculation or patients can also take pharmaceutical medications in daily dosages.   Clinical tests have shown that daily dosage treatment with SSRI’s is usually more effective in treatment of premature ejaculation than on demand usage.   It is essential for all patients to listen to the suggestions of their doctors as each case of PE needs to be assessed and treated specifically for each patient.
