In the 3rd volume of the
Journal of Sexual Medicine published in May 2006, Stanley Althof, et. al. discuss development of a questionnaire designed to measure various aspects of premature ejaculation ( PE ). Since both physical and psychological factors such as lack of control over ejaculation and feelings of distress have been associated with the condition, researchers felt that one questionnaire could encompass several features of premature ejaculation ( PE ).
The final product developed out of the study is titled the Index of Premature Ejaculation ( PE ). It uses intravaginal ejaculatory latency time (IELT), one of the more popular “concrete” measurements of rapid ejaculation; feelings of control over ejaculation; sexual satisfaction; and distress over early ejaculation as characteristics of the condition. The study’s authors hope that the tool can be used both as a method to help evaluate men with premature ejaculation ( PE ) and as a method to design new treatment options.
