The journal of Sexual medicine published the findings of an interesting study in their January 2008 edition about the significance of Serum leptin levels when diagnosing premature ejaculation patients.
The serum leptin levels of 46 premature ejaculation patients from an out patient clinic in Iran, were determined and compared with 44 control patients. PE was determined by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders IV criteria and IELT (intravaginal ejaculatory latency times) of less than a minute. PE patients had much higher serum leptin levels (8.3 +/- 3 ng/mL) than the control patients’ (3.3 +/- 1 ng/mL) (P < 0.001).
More studies need to be completed to figure out exactly how valuable serum leptin levels are as diagnostic tools for premature ejaculation.
