Review of Topical Ointments for Premature Ejaculation ( PE )

Updated Jul 15, 2007 at 22:34 EST.

In a July 2007 epublication of the BJU International, A Morales, J Barada, and MG Wyllie explain the types of topical ointments currently available to treat premature ejaculation ( PE ). The origin of premature ejaculation ( PE ) is unknown, making it difficult to approve a specific medication to treat the condition. There are a variety of topical ointments available today ranging from natural creams to prescription sprays. The prevailing theory behind topical ointments is that men with premature ejaculation ( PE ) suffer from penile hypersensitivity that causes ejaculation within moments of intromission.

The study reviewed ointments like dylonine, with alprostadil (prostaglandin E1).   The Korean product, SS Cream, is not widely available, although it has been shown in some studies to provide an alternative, natural solution to premature ejaculation ( PE ). Finally, TEMPE spray is comprised of both lidocaine and prilocaine and shows some promise in providing temporary relief while limiting the amount of vaginal numbness in female partners that often accompanies some creams. Since off-label antidepressants may not be able to provide “on demand” treatment for premature ejaculation ( PE ), promising new creams and sprays could provide the type of relief that men are seeking.
