Physicians often prescribe skin-numbing medications as a treatment alternative to premature ejaculation ( PE ). The Food and Drug Administration is cautioning individuals to use medications like lidocaine, tetracaine, benzocaine, and prilocaine to be used with caution and only under a physician’s supervision.
This announcement follows the death of two women who used a topical ointment following hair removal surgery. While investigation into the exact causes of the deaths is still being conducted, officials recommend that using medications like lidocaine be used carefully. Men who are currently using lidocaine or other skin-numbing ointments to treat premature ejaculation ( PE ) should check with their physician and obtain clear instructions prior to use.
