Slow FDA Approval Means Long Wait Times for Patients

Updated Apr 9, 2007 at 3:17 EST.

According to FDA reports for 2006, the number of new drugs approved remained at a flat rate: 18 drugs won FDA approval for the U.S. For men with premature ejaculation ( PE ) this could translate into longer time periods whereby new treatments are not available. Companies still have drugs in development, although this doesn’t necessarily mean that more applications are submitted to the FDA for approval.

According to the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, there are more than 2,000 drugs in development. Pharmaceutical companies are most likely taking more time on research to avoid rejection like dapoxetine. At some point in the future, the number of drugs approved will “rebound” and consumers can expect to see an increase in available treatment options.
