Taking sildenafil as an adjunct therapy for premature ejaculation ( PE )

Updated Feb 12, 2007 at 9:3 EST.

For men who are taking sildenafil as an adjunct therapy for premature ejaculation ( PE ), they should be aware that their ability to smell could be decreased as a result. The research appeared in the January issue of the Journal of Urology. The decrease in smell appears to be related to reduced nasal airflow, a side effect of the drug.

Most men with premature ejaculation ( PE ) do not take sildenafil alone, rather, they use it in conjunction with other medications used to treat the condition. The men who participated in the German study noted the impairment when taking 100mg doses, rather than 50mg doses. The authors conclude that the most likely reason for the impairment is nasal congestion.
