Men with premature ejaculation ( PE ) primarily struggle with ejaculatory control. The end result is usually embarrassment, shame, and withdrawal from their partners. Some experts feel that ejaculatory control is a learned skill and men who focus more efforts on learning about the steps of arousal can better manage their reactions. One expert recommends learning about arousal levels in terms of a number on a scale from 1 to 100.
Each point on the scale represents an arousal level from barely erect to orgasm. Each point in between is where men need to focus their attention to learn when they can continue intercourse and when orgasm is about to occur. While it is not a perfect process, men who learn to gauge their reaction to specific points along the arousal scale may learn more control over ejaculation. One method that men can use to learn more about arousal levels could be through manual stimulation or masturbation, either alone or with a partner. A man’s partner can also help in gauging arousal levels; open communication is highly recommended for both partners when working through issues related to premature ejaculation ( PE ).
