In volume 3 of the
Journal of Sexual Medicine published in March 2006, D Richardson, K Wood, and D Goldmeier provided details of a small exploratory study of men with Islamic backgrounds living in the
United Kingdom who reported premature or rapid ejaculation.
Ten men in the study were asked a variety of questions about premature ejaculation ( PE ) in a semi-structured interview. The themes of the responses were categorized by researchers.
The team found that most men’s responses concerning premature ejaculation ( PE ) centered around first sexual experiences (such as “the fear of being discovered or wanting to finish early”), sex before marriage, sex outside of marriage, religious issues concerning sexual experiences, stress – as defined by the men, not the researchers, Western image influences, and living in the United Kingdom. The goal of the research team was to identify primary themes surrounding premature ejaculation ( PE ) in men of Islamic backgrounds and then utilize those themes when conducting therapeutic intervention with this same target population.
