In volume 26 of the
Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology published in February 2006, Iranian researchers MR Safarinejad and SY Hosseini reported that 50mg of tramadol appears effective in treating premature ejaculation ( PE ). The study used 64 men with premature ejaculation ( PE ) in two groups – one treatment and one control. The double-blind, placebo-controlled study used intravaginal ejaculatory latency time ( IELT ) and two self-report scales to measure effectiveness of the 50mg tramadol doses over an 8 week period.
The study reported that IELT before the study was 19 seconds for the tramadol group and 21 seconds for the control group. After 8 weeks, the tramadol group reported an average IELT of 243 seconds, while the control group reported an average IELT of 34 seconds. Corresponding satisfaction rates measured by the International Index of Erectile Function increased for the tramadol group as well. Researchers feel that tramadol could be effective in treating premature ejaculation ( PE ), yet more study needs to be performed in order to make final determinations.
