Understanding Ejaculatory Dysfunctions

Updated Feb 24, 2007 at 8:2 EST.

In volume 8 of Reviews in Urology (Supplement 4) published in 2006, JP Wolters and WJ Hellstrom discussed ejaculatory disorders and the various types. Premature ejaculation ( PE ) falls into one category of ejaculatory dysfunction. The other three types include retrograde ejaculation, delayed ejaculation, and anejaculation/anorgasmia.

The primary issue underlying ejaculatory disorders is that they are studied less, and as a result, not as easily understood. The literature review by Wolters and Hellstrom discusses the normal ejaculatory response and emerging trends in research that is currently being conducted in this area. For example, a few selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors effect change in individuals with premature ejaculation ( PE ), thereby giving researchers more information about the overall role serotonin in the ejaculatory process. As more studies are conducted concerning ejaculatory disorders, the better clinical outcomes patients can expect with their diagnosing physician.
