In the 14th volume of the International Journal of Urology published in April 2007, WF Wang, et. al. discussed whether or not sildenafil is effective in treating premature ejaculation ( PE ) . Although previous studies had found some benefit, some used paroxetine in addition to sildenafil, thereby limiting the applicability of only a single medication. In addition, these studies may have also discounted female factors in premature ejaculation ( PE ) that contribute to stressful sexual experiences.
The new study reviewed using sildenafil alone, combining it with paroxetine, and using sildenafil with the squeeze technique, thus accounting for female factors in premature ejaculation ( PE ). In group C (sildenafil and squeeze technique), no significant changes were seen after 3 or 6 months. In groups A (sildenafil alone as needed) and B (sildenafil plus paroxetine) men showed improvement after 3 and 6 months. Both of these groups had lower drop-out rates and increased rates of men wanting to continue treatment beyond the initial study period. Researchers concluded that sildenafil alone as needed can be an effective treatment option for premature ejaculation ( PE ).
