Voluntary Control in Premature Ejaculation ( PE )

Updated May 14, 2007 at 23:19 EST.

In volume 23 of the Indian Journal of Urology published in 2007, CG McMahon discusses the role of voluntary control in diagnosing premature ejaculation ( PE ) . Some researchers have indicated that lack of voluntary control over ejaculation is one marker of premature ejaculation ( PE ). Other studies use perceived control instead of voluntary control as an indicator of premature ejaculation ( PE ) . There are conflicting concepts arising from this area of concern.

In 1997, a study by Grenier and Byers could not connect voluntary control and perceived control over ejaculation. This study would appear to indicate that these concepts are not as well linked as some studies would have men believe. In the Grenier and Byers study, some men with relatively short ejaculatory latency time were not bothered by lack of perceived self control, while other men were. They concluded their study by stating that ejaculatory control and ejaculatory latency are two separate concepts and need to be treated as such instead of being focused into a single arena. Other studies have found the opposite of Grenier and Byers indicating that much more work needs to be done on these two concepts and how they are related, if at all.
