Dr. William Aiken, head of Urology at
University
Hospital of the
West Indies, notes that wine may be one mechanism used to help men with premature ejaculation ( PE ) . Having a glass or two just prior to engaging in sexual intercourse could relax or depress the ejaculatory system and prolong ejaculation. He cautions against too much alcohol prior to sex since it could prove counter-productive.
Other methods that do not involve pharmacological treatment espoused by Dr. Aiken include masturbation a few hours before sex, giving the refractory period long enough to recover; changing positions frequently during intercourse; and using medicated condoms with desensitizing gels or creams to decrease penile sensitivity.
