Using Vardenafil to Treat Premature Ejaculation ( PE )

Updated May 23, 2007 at 9:27 EST.

At the March 2007 conference of the European Association of Urology, O Ekmekcioglu et. al. reviewed a clinical study of men with Premature Ejaculation ( PE ) who took either a placebo or vardenafil as a possible treatment. Forty (40) men with premature ejaculation ( PE ) participated in the double-blind study. Subjects ingested either the placebo or the vardenafil dosage and received audiovisual sexual stimulation ( AVSS ) after 45 minutes. Eight (8) minutes after AVSS began, the participant received vibratory stimulation until ejaculation. The study was repeated after 7 to 15 days.

Researchers noted that only 17 results could be evaluated of the 40 men who participated in the study. When compared to the placebo, men who ingested vardenafil significantly increased ejaculatory latency time ( IELT ). Penile rigidity was not significantly different between the two groups. Further study with vardenafil should be evaluated to determine if this medication is a viable treatment for rapid or premature ejaculation ( PE ).
