In volume 23 of the Indian Journal of Urology published in 2007, CG McMahon explores the underlying causes of premature ejaculation ( PE ). One of these causes reported in previous literature reviews is underlying anxiety men may feel during sexual intercourse. McMahon notes that few studies have borne out this link and that anxiety may not be a cause of premature ejaculation ( PE ).
Anxiety has been linked to voluntary control by several researchers. These studies claim that high anxiety coupled with a perceived lack of control over the ejaculatory process play a strong environmental role in premature ejaculation ( PE ) . McMahon feels that even though anxiety is not directly linked to premature ejaculation ( PE ), the myth continues in sexual medicine as a popular theory but that has little basis in fact.
