The journal of sexual medicine
published an article in their December 14,
2007 publication.
Shindel AW reviewed premature ejaculation in infertile couples and the issues which correlate with it.
Infertile couples were examined using a number of different types of evaluations.
These included
the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression (CES-D) scale, males completed the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) and both males and females completed versions of the Self-Esteem and Relationship Quality (SEAR) scale. Female partners completed the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI).
Fifty of men in the study complained of rapid ejaculation, but only 47% of their partners agreed with the diagnosis.
Partner frustration related to PE was reported in by 30% of the male participants.
There was a very significant difference in male reported cases of PE and their partner’s reports of cases of PE.
In conclusion of the study, PE is very common among infertile couples although males perceive the incidence of this condition much higher than their female partners.
PE also showed evidence of lowering relationship satisfaction in both men and women.
